Tonometer for glaucoma patients
The tonometer is part of a system of devices, consisting of a portable tonometer, a database, and an app. The health coach adds will assist the patient in timing the measurements and keeping track of any trends in intraocular pressure. As the abnormally high IOP is not felt by the patient, the Optec system greatly contributes to awareness and control over the patient’s condition. The web portal provides the ophthalmologist with the patient’s current data, reducing unnecessary visits and decreasing response time when in need of care.
This system is a medical device, therefore it is developed according to European regulations. An in-depth understanding of the regulations and the integration of the risk management, usability engineering, and quality management system are key factors to a successful certification process.
We want patients to make the measurement unassisted in a home environment. Critical to the succes of the project is to make the measurment so reliable that anybody can use it. To guarantee that this is possible users are involved in the development from the start of the project. In usability engineering it is more important to observe people using your product than interviewing them. People tend to accept imperfections where the must be seen as opportunities to improve the product
